Тело удлинённо овальное с очень высоким тонким килем, длиной до 1/2 длины тела, низким килем или без него. Нога короткая, левый палец равен длине тела. Правый-рудиментарный, короче щетинок у основания пальцев. Самцы известны (длина 60–70 мк, Donner, 1943) .
Космополит. Евразия, Северная и южная Америка, Новая Зеландия.
Широко распространен.
В прибрежных зарослях различных водоемов.
В болотистых водоёмах, иногда в солоноватых и морских водах.
Умеренная.
