Тело низкое, овальное, сжатое с боков. Голова и створки без киля. Рострум короткий. Сиворки с хорошо выраженной скульптурой в форме линий, задненижний угол створок обычно с 1–3 зубцами.
Южная Европа, в России на восток до р. Обь.
Юго-Восточный Казахстан.
Дно и заросли в водоемах различных типов, иногда в пелагиали.
Очень умеренно.
