Панцирь круглый с нежно зернистой скульптурой, сильно сплющенный. Отверстие для ноги в середине, боковые щупальца в передней трети панциря. Длина 120–230 (у гигантских форм 240–258 мк). Самцы известны 127–135 мк.
Всесветен.
Повсеместно.
Солоноватые и морские воды.
Среди водной растительности, в придонном слое воды, в планктоне небольших водоёмов.
Низкая.
