Description

Створки со слабой ретикуляцией в виде продолговатых ячеек. Створки овальные, сильно расширенные книзу, оканчивающиеся выступом, лишенные спинного киля. Вдоль брюшного края створок, отступя от него, тянется тонкая бороздка, усаженная щетинками.

Во всех частях света кроме Австралии; Европа, Северная Африка; в России повсеместно.

В мелких водоемах полицикличен, в крупных – моноцикличен, плодовитость до 35 яиц. Переносит осолонение и закисление вод. Встречается в торфяниковых и солоноватых водах. эвритермиченный.
