Тело состоит из головы, туловища и всегда скрытой ноги. Панцирь прозрачный, округлый, к концу суженный. Отверстие для ноги сзади, круглое и из него выходит тонкий нитевидный стебелёк для прикрепления субитанных яиц при вынашивании их самкой. 2 глазных пятна.
Вид встречающийся в умеренных и южных широтах.
Повсеместно.
Пруды, редко пелагиаль озёр.
Теплолюбив.
