Панцирь широкоовальной формы, ширина превышает половину длины. Передние спинные шипы прямые, срединные и боковые длиннее промежуточных. Задний край панциря округлый, без хвостового шипа. Складки на заднем крае брюшной пластинки напоминают контуры лезвия широкой секиры.
Повсеместно (но более характерен для северных и умеренных широт).
Широко распространен.
Горные озера.
Зимне-весенний вид.
Очень низкая численность.
