Раковинка мало прозрачная, с более или менее заметной ретикуляцией. Хвостовая игла умеренной длины. Голова крупная, слабо отделенная от туловища, с рострумом. Передние антенны самки неподвижные, короткие, с 9 эстетасками, у самца подвижные, состоящие из удлиненного основания, несущего эстетаски и жгутика.
Всесветен.
Широкораспространенный.
Литораль.
Эвритермный и эвригалинный. Толерантен к эвтрофикации. Предпочитает слабокислые (рН 5–6,5) и слабощелочные водоемы (рН 7,5–8,5).
